School Sports Physicals in Georgetown, KY

Helping Student Athletes Stay Healthy and Ready to Compete

Participation in school athletics is a great way for students to stay active, build teamwork skills, and develop lifelong healthy habits. Before students can safely participate in sports, schools require a pre-participation physical examination, commonly called a sports physical.

At Landmark Chiropractic in Georgetown, Kentucky, Dr. Cole Bergeson provides thorough and convenient school sports physicals for students of all ages. Our goal is to ensure that young athletes are healthy, physically prepared, and safe to participate in their chosen sport.

We strive to make the process simple and comfortable for both parents and students so athletes can focus on enjoying their season.

We perform the required examination for only $20.

What happens during a School Sports Physical?

A school sports physical, also known as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), is a health evaluation designed to determine whether a student is medically able to participate in athletic activities.

The purpose of a sports physical is to:

  • Identify potential health risks that could affect athletic participation
  • Ensure students are physically ready for sports activity
  • Detect conditions that may require monitoring or treatment
  • Reduce the risk of injury during athletic competition

During the examination, Dr. Bergeson reviews the student’s medical history and performs a physical evaluation to ensure the student can safely participate in sports.

A school sports physical typically includes several important health checks to evaluate the student’s overall fitness and safety for athletic participation. The exam may include:

  • Review of medical history and previous injuries
  • Height, weight, and vital signs assessment
  • Blood pressure check
  • Vision screening
  • Evaluation of heart and lung health
  • Joint and muscle evaluation
  • Spine and posture assessment
  • Range of motion and mobility testing

The goal is to identify any health concerns that could increase the risk of injury or affect athletic performance. If everything is normal, Dr. Bergeson will complete and sign the required school forms allowing the student to participate in sports.

Is Landmark Chiropractic Qualified to conduct Sports Physicals?

Sports physicals must be conducted by a licensed healthcare professional who is qualified to evaluate musculoskeletal health and general physical fitness.

Dr. Cole Bergeson is a licensed chiropractic physician who is trained to evaluate the spine, joints, and musculoskeletal system—key areas that affect athletic performance and injury prevention. Because chiropractic physicians specialize in movement, joint function, and physical health, they are well qualified to perform sports physical examinations.

Our team’s experience treating athletes and musculoskeletal conditions allows him to assess whether a student’s body is prepared for the demands of athletic activity.

In Kentucky, students who wish to participate in school athletics must complete a pre-participation physical examination before they are allowed to compete. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) requires that student athletes complete a sports physical performed by a qualified healthcare provider before participating in school sports programs.

The examination must be completed and documented using the official KHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation form. Key requirements include:

  • The physical must be completed by a licensed healthcare provider
  • The form must be signed by the provider and submitted to the school
  • The exam must confirm the student is medically cleared to participate

These requirements apply to many middle school and high school athletic programs throughout Kentucky.
